Simply said, Shaman King is the story about Asakura Yoh, a shaman, aiming to become the Shaman King. However, to achieve his goal, he must participate in the Shaman Fight, a tournament held once every 500 years, where many other Shamans battle for the very same title.

The Osorezan Revoir mainly tells about the meeting between Anna and Yoh. During Yoh's winterbreak, he is sent to Aomori to meet the girl who was chosen to be his bride. He is accompanied by Matamune, one of the oldest Asakura spirits. We discover that one of the reasons Yoh wants to become the Shaman King, is to feel less lonely, he has no friends at school, because of his 'gift'. Also, Anna is said to be a girl who is really hard to handle. Upon their first meeting, Yoh is shocked by Anna who wants him to die for blocking her way. It seems that Anna's past is covered up with blood, so Yoh sets another reason for wanting to become the Shaman King: he wants to help Anna with her ability, Reishi, which allows her to 'hear' a person's heart and state.

But apart from all this, we also get to know how Hao turned out the way he is now: evil, and perhaps you can even call him twisted for wanting to change the world to a place of only worthy shamans. But he hasn't always been this way. We learn, from Matamune's flashbacks, that Hao was actually a very gentle person. As Matamune says, "There is none that has a heart as kind as his". But it is exactly this kind heart of his, and the ability of Reishi (the same ability that Anna has), which turns him to the other side. Because of his kindness, and his great powers, his heart was being devoured by oni. He could no longer choose whether or not he wanted to look into a person's heart, and all the emotions of the people around him were heard.
